With a special -- and very moving -- letter of support from the most recent past commander of the post, Col. Perry Allmendinger, U. S. Army, Ret., and with a letter as well from President Louis Guy on behalf of his Norfolk Historical Society, the Norfolk Preservation Alliance made the nomination on January 26, 2007, to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
