Involve all FADA members in Ft. Monroe
June 2, 2007
Regarding the Fort Monroe Federal Area Development Authority "shakeup" ("Attempted power play led to Fort Monroe shakeup," May 25).
Why does the 18-person FADA have a five-person executive committee that will screen information given to the full board? This means three people can control what information the full board receives. Now we have a situation in which a majority of three can control information and thus outcomes.
How is giving so much power to so few people going to facilitate looking at all the options from a variety of viewpoints? This situation already indicates that members have their own agendas, and a very few could control and railroad decisions.
In all the meetings I attended, this aspect of FADA was never mentioned, much less explained and made public.
Every FADA member should look at all information. If they do not have time for that, they should resign. I hope people will write and call and this structure for the Fort Monroe FADA will be changed.
